Apply to take part

Picture
Our underlying objective and the principal purpose for running this event is to raise as much money as we can for Cancer Research UK (CRUK).    To do this, we want to take advantage of the Gift Aid scheme.   There are strict rules around Gift Aid and we would not wish for the charity to fall foul of these.  In consultation with CRUK's Compliance Team, we will repeat the same process as last time year where you can apply via this website for effectively a free place in the event and then you will be provided with a link to CRUK's website to make a personal donation that will be tagged as being associated with Requiem to Cancer 2025.    We hope this is not too complicated!   If you have any questions about this then please do get in touch via the Contact page.

We have places for a total of up to 200 singers and it would be great to fill the venue with voices from all corners of the country (and beyond) and at all hours of the day and night.   As noted on the About page, you are encouraged to participate for as much of (but preferably all of) the 24 hour period to ensure we maintain a good vocal presence throughout.

There's a lot to take in on this page but we request you take your time and read through it carefully.   It should answer most of your questions ...... hopefully!

The works that will be sung this time are:
  • Michael Haydn : Requiem in C minor (MH 155) - directed by Andrea Brown
  • Andrew Lloyd-Webber : Requiem - directed by Tim Rhys-Evans
  • Gabriel Fauré : Requiem  (Novello edition) - led by Tim Rhys-Evans
  • Johannes Brahms : Ein deutsches Requiem - directed by Jeremy Jackman
  • Gareth Treseder : Until Such Sorrow No One Knows : Newly commissioned anthem for this event

The application process via this website is a two-stage process.   The first step is to fill in the form below and submit it.   Within a few days you will get a response to your application.     If you do not have an e-mail address please contact us using the Contact page.

On the form below, we will ask of you four main things:
  1. Who you are, your contact details, your voice part.
  2. What your score hire requirements are.   Please note :
    (a) Copies of the new anthem from Gareth Treseder will be supplied on the day and are usable for this event only.   You will be asked to return the copies at the end of the event and are not permitted to use them or copy them for any other purpose unless advised on the day.
    (b) Copies of the Michael Haydn Requiem in C minor will also be supplied in printed form on the day and are for you to keep as they are sourced and printed under the GNU public licence from CPDL.org.   A free e-version in PDF will be made available nearer the date for those who prefer to use iPads/tablets.
    (c) Should you wish to bring your own copies, when selecting your score requirements below, please ensure they match the editions listed so there's no confusion over page and bar numbers on the day.
  3. At various times during the event, roll calls will be read out of those known to us who have either been lost to cancer or who have survived it.    You are welcome to submit names to be included on those lists on the form.   When supplying names please try not to be too generic as what you supply will be what is read out.  So, although 'Mum' might mean something in the context of this form, it may not be so obvious when read out from a list where there is no surrounding context and there would be a lot of Mums on the list.   A plain name is the preferred option.   We would ask, please, that only those lost or surviving in the past 10 years be included as the lists got rather long last time!
  4. Your agreement about how we use your personal data collected on this page.   Please see the paragraph about Data Protection & Consent below.

After you have entered all the required details and pressed REGISTER, you will be asked to make your donation on CRUK's website.   The minimum donation requested is £50, the same as last time.   For any students participating or those in full-time education, we would ask for a minimum £20 please.  Remember that personal donations made directly to CRUK by this method are eligible for 25% Gift Aid top-ups from HMRC, at no additional cost to you so long as you are a UK taxpayer.  Thank you very much.

Another feature introduced last time was the option for you to set up your own fundraising page through which you can encourage your friends and family to make donations, all of which will be counted as being part of the overall Requiem to Cancer total.   If you would like to do this then clicking here will open up a new, separate window in your browser containing details of CRUK's 'Super Team' option.   You can then return later to this new window to explore this option.  However, please do ensure you complete the Application Form below and make your own personal donation first so that you have been registered properly.

Data Protection & Consent:  The personal data items we collect on this form are your name, e-mail address and phone number.  We require these items so that we can contact you in relation to your registration and participation in this event.   Without these details, your registration cannot be completed.   We will also use them to keep you informed after the event of its results and to advise you of any plans for future events of the same type.   We use email as the primary means of communication.   The phone number is a back-up in case we are unable to contact you via email.

Your personal details will be used solely for the purposes described above and not for any other reason or marketing/promotion activity.   They will never be shared with any third party outside of the event's organisers unless required to do so by law.
